IndianOil

Joining ₹500 · Annual ₹500 · Renewal fee waived on spends of ₹50,000 or more in the preceding year

Fee break-even: ≈₹78,125/yr through this card at its base rate. Below that, the fee eats the rewards.

Earns Fuel Points · assumed 0.96 ₹/point. 1 Fuel Point = 3 IndianOil XTRAREWARD points and 1 XRP = ₹0.32, so 1 FP = ₹0.96. But ONLY as free fuel at IndianOil pumps. You must convert FP to XRP via netbanking/mobile banking (3 to 4 working days), minimum 500 FP and in multiples of 500, so 500 FP buys ₹480 of fuel. Every other route is roughly five times worse: product catalogue and SmartBuy flights/hotels up to ₹0.20, airmiles ₹0.25, and statement-credit cashback needs a 12,500 FP balance before you can redeem at all. Points lapse 2 years after accrual, and cashback/travel redemptions are capped at 50,000 points per calendar month.

EMI₹99 to ₹699 plus GST at a merchant, up to ₹849 plus GST converting a statement balance processing fee · A converted purchase stops earning rewards · HDFC's fee follows the merchant and the scheme rather than your card, so the same tenure can cost ₹99 at one shop and ₹699 at another. It is not refunded if you cancel or pre close. Cancelling inside 7 days is free, after that pre closing costs 3% of the principal left plus GST. · No Fuel Points on EMI-converted transactions
Fuel surcharge1% on fuel transactions of ₹400 and above at any petrol pump in India, capped ₹250 per statement cycle

UPI spending0.64%RuPay variant only, and it earns the plain base rate of 1 FP per ₹150. There is no accelerated UPI rate and no separate UPI cap. HDFC's own worked example inside the card T&C confirms it: a ₹3,000 UPI apparel spend earns 20 FP and a ₹5,250 UPI restaurant spend earns 35 FP, both exactly ₹150 per point. The Visa variant cannot be linked to UPI at all.

Fuel4.8%250 FP/month for the first 6 months from issuance (~₹5,000 of fuel), then 150 FP/month (~₹3,000 of fuel) · 5% of spend as Fuel Points, but only at IndianOil (IOCL) pumps and outlets identified by IndianOil's own TIDs/MIDs, on fuel and related products via card swipe. Fuel at any other brand earns nothing at all. Fuel is on the exclusion list for the 1 FP/₹150 tier. Though the surcharge waiver still applies everywhere. The cap is the binding constraint: past ~₹3,000 of monthly fuel the marginal return is 0%.

Utilities & bills4.8%100 FP/month (~₹2,000 of spend), a separate bucket from the grocery cap · HDFC's 'Bill Payments' bucket is utility and telecom MCCs 4812, 4814 and 4900 only, with a ₹150 minimum per transaction. So yes. The accelerated 5% genuinely covers groceries and utilities as well as fuel, but each of the three sits under its own small monthly cap rather than sharing one pool. HDFC separately charges 1% on utility spends above ₹50,000 per calendar month.

Also worth knowing

  • Redemption is NOT strictly fuel-only, but it may as well be: free fuel at IndianOil returns ₹0.96 per point while catalogue/SmartBuy returns up to ₹0.20 and airmiles ₹0.25. Redeeming anywhere other than fuel cuts the card's value by about 80%.
  • Complimentary IndianOil XTRAREWARDS (IXRP) membership is mandatory plumbing for the ₹0.96 route. It is created against your HDFC-registered mobile number. Change that number with the bank and a new loyalty ID is generated and any points sitting under the old ID lapse.
  • Welcome benefit is reported by aggregators as a ₹250 IndianOil fuel voucher (some describe it instead as 100% cashback up to ₹250 on the first fuel transaction). HDFC's own product page is JS-rendered and would not confirm either, so treat the ₹250 as unverified. Separately and better-corroborated: the ₹500 joining fee is waived on ₹20,000 of spend in the first 90 days.
  • Launched 2019 for non-metro vehicle owners and issued on both Visa and RuPay. Pick RuPay if you want UPI at all. But note UPI only earns the 0.64% base, so RuPay buys convenience, not rewards.
  • The '50 litres of free fuel a year' claim only lands if you max all three accelerated caps every single month: 2,400 FP from fuel plus 2,400 FP from groceries and bills ≈ ₹4,600 of fuel, which at ~₹95 to 100/litre is roughly 46-48 litres.
  • Fuel Points are calculated and posted monthly, not per statement cycle. HDFC's T&C states points earned in January appear in the February statement. And every cap here is a calendar-month cap.
  • Bank-wide HDFC fees apply: 1% on rent, on wallet loads above ₹10,000/month, on fuel above ₹15,000/month, and on utilities above ₹50,000/month, each capped ₹4,999. The fuel one rarely bites on this card because the reward cap already stops paying at ~₹3,000 to 5,000 of monthly fuel, well under ₹15,000.
  • No lounge access, no golf, no concierge. This is a narrow single-purpose fuel card.
